If you’re looking for an easy, no-bake treat that everyone instantly loves, this Puppy Chow Recipe is it! Also known as muddy buddies, this sweet and crunchy snack is made with crispy Chex cereal coated in a rich chocolate and peanut butter mixture, then dusted in powdered sugar for that classic snowy finish!

Classic Muddy Buddies Puppy Chow Recipe!

We decided in Spring that it was time to get rid of the swing set. I was so emotional over a silly swing set! Some friends of ours gave it to us because they were moving out of state when our son was just a baby. That swing set gave us many happy memories!

I could see it perfectly through the kitchen window so I could keep an eye on the kids playing. They turned that swing set into pirate ship, a plane, a car, an ice cream shop, they were always so imaginative with it!

When it came time to list it there were several people interested, but nobody followed through. I thought I would get lucky and nobody would buy it! Eventually a woman and her husband with two small children made an offer and came to pick it up. She knew I was a wreck over it and promised to give it a good home.

Shortly after they got it home it was assembled and freshened up with a new coat of paint! I was so relieved. She was going to love it just as much as I did!

I wish time would stand still! About the only thing that stands the test of time though is Puppy Chow! It’s one of those things that will always be exactly what you need when you didn’t know you needed it!

How to Make the Best Puppy Chow

Pour 6 cups Rice Chex cereal in a large bowl and set aside.

Put 1 cup milk chocolate chips, 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter, and 1/4 cup butter in a small sauce pan and melt together over low heat. Stir frequently until completely melted and combined then add in 1 tsp vanilla and stir.

Pour over cereal and mix until the cereal is coated.

Transfer to a gallon Ziplock bag, then add 2 cups powdered sugar. Seal the bag and shake until the cereal is well coated.

Coat the Cereal Evenly – Pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal gradually. Gently fold to avoid crushing the Chex while making sure every piece is coated.

Work Quickly While Warm – Coat and mix while the chocolate is still warm. This helps the coating stick better before it starts to harden.

Let It Cool Before Storing – Spread the Puppy Chow on a baking sheet to cool. This prevents clumping and helps the coating set properly.

Store in Airtight Container – It stays fresh and crunchy for several days when stored this way.
