4th of July Brownies with M&M’s
I say every holiday is my favorite holiday when it’s on the horizon, but I really do love 4th of July! We have a special family tradition of going to Willow Springs Gardens every year. They have an all day Independence Day event complete with a car show, activities for kids, Abe Lincoln, food, music, and fireworks at dusk. We started this annual tradition when our son was just a toddler, and we’ve done it every year since then!
I love the 4th of July because the day is always packed full of time with friends and family, good food, hot summer days, swimming, and fireworks. And it’s low maintenance – anything goes!
When you don’t want to show up empty handed and you’re short on time, you can easily bring 4th of July Rice Krispies Treats , 4th of July M&M Cookie Bars , or these 4th of July Brownies!

Brownie mix – Any store bought brownie mix will work. Just prepare the brownies as directed on the back of the box.
M&M’s – Some people sprinkle the M&M’s on top of the brownie batter before baking. That works, but the white M&M’s discolor and most of the M&M’s crack. I prefer to sprinkle them on and press them in about 20 minutes after removing them from the oven to preserve their pretty color.
Frosting – You could also frost the brownies after they have cooled, then sprinkle with the M&M’s.
