Why this Recipe Works

Cranberries Bring Festive Sweetness and Color – Their chewy texture and tart flavor brighten the cheese ball and gives it that signature holiday look.

Pecans Add Crunch and Warmth – Finely chopped pecans create a toasty, nutty coating that contrasts beautifully with the creamy center.

Fresh Chives Keep the Flavor Balanced – A hint of oniony freshness prevents the cheese ball from tasting too sweet and adds a subtle savory lift.

Easy to Make Ahead and Party Perfect – You can mix, roll, and chill for hours in advance, making them ideal for holiday gatherings, potlucks, and appetizer boards.

Ingredients You’ll Need

2 (8 oz) Cream Cheese (Softened) – This is the creamy, tangy base that holds the cheese ball together. Softening it ensures a smooth, easy to mix texture.

1 cup White Cheddar Cheese (Shredded) – Adds sharp, savory flavor and balances the sweetness from the cranberries. It also gives the cheese ball a richer, more complex bite.

1 cup Dried Cranberries (Roughly Chopped) – Sweet, chewy, and tart – they add pops of color and a festive flavor that pairs beautifully with the pecans.

1 cup Pecans (Finely Chopped) – These bring crunch, nuttiness, and a toasty flavor. Finely chopping them helps them coat the cheese ball evenly.

2 tbsp Fresh Chives (Chopped) – Adds a mild oniony freshness that brightens the whole cheese ball and keeps it from tasting too sweet.

How to Make a Cranberry Pecan Cheese Ball

In a large bowl, beat together 2 (8 oz) softened cream cheese, 1 cup shredded white cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup roughly chopped dried cranberries, 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans, and 1 tbsp chopped fresh chives.

Scrape down sides of the bowl, bringing the mixture to the center. This will make about 3 cups.

Set out a piece of 10″ x 10″ plastic wrap.

Using greased hands, form the cream cheese mixture into a ball and place onto the plastic wrap. Bring the edges of the plastic wrap around the cheese ball to seal. Let chill in the refrigerator until firm.

On a plate, combine 1/2 cup roughly chopped dried cranberries, 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans, and 1 tbsp chopped fresh chives.

Remove the cheese ball from the refrigerator and unwrap.

Roll into the mixture on the plate, pressing slightly into it to cover the cheese ball entirely.

Let sit at room temperature to soften for about 20 minutes before serving.

Serve with crackers.

Soften the Cream Cheese Completely – Room temperature cream cheese blends smoothly and prevents lumps. Cold cream cheese will make the mixture stiff and harder to shape.

Chill Before Shaping – A quick 20-30 minute chill firms the mixture so you can roll a smooth ball.

Roll Gently, But Firmly – Too much pressure can squeeze out mix-in’s; too little pressure won’t bind the coating. A light, confident roll works best.

Chill Again Before Serving – A final chill helps the flavors meld and gives the cheese ball a firmer, creamier texture.

Serve With a Variety of Crackers – Buttery crackers, pretzel crisps, and seedy crackers all pair beautifully with the sweet savory flavor.
