Healthy Apple Date Bread
The first time she made it, we thought it was delicious, but everyone agreed it needed more filling. Some also thought it should be sweeter.
So she made it again and revised the original recipe to have a thicker and sweeter swirl. She nailed it! The best part is she didn’t use any sugar to sweeten it – she used honey! I love, love, looooove this bread – especially toasted. It takes like a cinnamon roll swirl, but you can eat it guilt free!

The Apple Filling
1 cup Apples, Peeled & Cubed
3 tbsp Water
1 tbsp Honey
The Date Paste
1 1/4 cups Dates, Chopped
3/4 cup Water
1/4 tsp Salt
1 tbsp Honey
3/4 cup Walnuts, Chopped
And the Bread Dough
2 cups Water, Warm
2 packets Quick-Rising Yeast
1/2 cup Honey
1/4 cup Oil
2 tsp Salt
5 cups Flour
1/4 cup Wheat Germ

How to Make Apple Date Bread
Bring 1 cup peeled & cubed apples, 3 tbsp water, and 1 tbsp honey to a boil in a small sauce pan. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
In a separate small sauce pan, bring 1 1/4 cups chopped dates, 3/4 cup water, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1 tbsp honey to a boil. Simmer until the mixture is like paste. Remove from heat and stir in 3/4 cup chopped walnuts and the apple mixture. Set aside.
Make the bread dough by adding 2 cups warm water, 2 packets quick-rising yeast, and 1/2 cup honey to a large bowl. Let rest for 10 minutes.
Add in 1/4 cup oil, 2 tsp salt, 5 cups flour, and 1/4 cup wheat germ. Stir together.
Knead for 5-10 minutes, until smooth.
Place in oiled bowl.
Let rise until double in size.
Spray 2 bread pans with non-stick spray. Set aside.
Divide bread dough in half. Roll out each half on floured surface.
Divide apple date paste mixture and spread evenly between them. Roll up tightly.
Place rolled up dough in each pan. Let rise until double in size.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
When ready, bake for 40 minutes.
