Valentine’s Day Chocolate Sugar Cookies

A simple, but delightful chocolate sugar cookie cut into heart shapes for Valentine’s Day!

Heart Shaped Chocolate Sugar Cookies

My office is every kids dream and every parents worst nightmare. I have shelves from floor to ceiling packed with seasonal candy, sprinkles of every kind, chocolate chips, almond bark, chewy candy, hard candy, you name it – I have it. As crazy as it sounds, I don’t look at it as food. It’s what I use to make a living, it’s more like creative art to me.

Except they go for the weird stuff, the candy I would never get excited about – like Nerds or gummy worms. Which gets me thinking… these Valentine’s Day Chocolate Sugar Cookies don’t look all that exciting. They look pretty plain, like they would be more work than they are worth. But the crazy thing is, the simplicity of them is shockingly addicting! They are such a nice cookie, not overly sweet yet chocolatey. I love these cookies more than I thought I would!

How to Make Valentine’s Day Chocolate Sugar Cookies

In a small bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, 2 tbsp corn starch, 3/4 tsp salt, and 3/4 cup cocoa powder to combine.

In a large bowl, beat together 1 cup sugar and 1 cup softened butter until smooth and creamy.

Add in 1 egg and 1 tbsp vanilla and beat.

Then add in flour mixture and beat until well combined. The dough is ready when it sticks to the beaters.

Roll out the dough between 2 pieces of lightly floured parchment paper.

Put on a baking sheet and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes.

Bake for 8-12 minutes, or until centers are set.

Let cool.

Melt 2 cups Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate Chips in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until smooth and melted.

Dunk a heart in the melted chocolate and set on parchment paper. Sprinkle Valentine sprinkles on the wet chocolate.

Let harden.
