Choplet Burger

A traditional Adventist Camp Meeting vegetarian burger usually served at the snack shop! Now you can make your own at home!

Vegetarian Choplet Recipe

Have you ever thanked your friends or family for loving you unconditionally? Maybe you are always late and they wait for you. Maybe they always remember your birthday and you forget theirs. Maybe they borrow you things that you forget to return. Maybe they listen because you do all the talking. Maybe they support you even though your ideas are crazy.

They wait because they love you. They remember because they love you. They listen because they love you. They support you because they love you. They forgive you because they love you.

I am so blessed to be loved, despite my many character flaws. Sometimes I am not just a can of crazy, I’m a whole case, and they love me any way. If there is one thing the people in my life have taught me, it’s to love others in the same way I have been loved!

These Choplet Burgers get a whole lot of love at Camp Meeting every year! The snack shop line is always packed with people waiting to take a bite of nostalgia. But you don’t have to wait to only have them once a year, you can make them at home! You can serve them with Macaroni Salad , Baked Beans , or Air Fryer Potato Wedges!

How to Make Choplets for Burgers

In a blender, combine 2 cups water, 1/2 cup quick oats, 1/4 cup wheat germ, 1/3 cup yeast flakes, 1 tbsp McKay’s chicken seasoning, 1 tbsp onion powder, 1 tbsp garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp poultry seasoning.

Once blended together, put 2 1/2 cups vital wheat flour in a large bowl. Pour the blended mixture into the bowl with flour and mix until well combined. Then knead with your hands to absorb the flour.

Form into 2 rolls and wrap each roll in saran wrap. Refrigerate for 1/2 hour.

Prepare the broth in a large pot by combining 9 cups water, 3/4 cups Bragg’s Aminos, 3 tbsp McKay’s beef seasoning, 1 tbsp onion powder, 1 tbsp kitchen bouquet, 1 tbsp garlic powder, and 1 large onion, sliced.

Slice each roll into steak size pieces and simmer in the broth for 45 minutes.

Remove from the broth and let cool. Cover with saran wrap to keep from drying out.

Prepare the breading meal by whisking together 2 cups whole wheat flour, 1 1/2 cups cornmeal, 2 tsp salt, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/8 tsp thyme, 1/3 cup wheat germ, and 2 tbsp yeast flakes.

When the steaks are cool, dredge into the breading meal and fry in a frying pan with oil. Flip to fry evenly on both sides.
